Pets tug at your heart.....

Wow, today is such a hard day for me.. I had to put down, not 1 but 2 of my poodles.  Bradley was 17 and Elvis was 16.  They were 1/2 brothers and were together through everything.  Elvis wouldn't even pee anywhere else unless it was right by his brother.

Bradley was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in May 2011.  He lived longer than the 6 months the vet gave him at that time.  Elvis has had seizures since he was a puppy and developed tumors growing on him over the past 2 years.  They both lost control of bladder and had to be let out almost every 15 minutes, thank goodness for my hubby that he was able to be here with them the last year when it got so bad.

Bradley could hardly walk anymore, most times falling down and having a hard time getting back up. The last couple of nights he was becoming very restless and could not settle down to sleep... He also was losing control of his bowels.  Today I woke up and just made that tough decision it was their time.  I needed to let them go.  To ease their suffering.  I was able to have my hubby, daughter, son in law, son, daughter in law with me as they were put to sleep.  It was very peaceful for them.  No pain, I held them while the vet administered the drugs.  It was tough thing for my daughter to do, she was the tech today but I could not think of a better person to do it; someone who knew them and they did not get anxious.  Poor Elvis was shaking like a leaf, but he always did even to go to the groomers, he would shake as soon as we got near....
They both were great dogs, I miss them terribly already, the silence is horrible in the house, no more coughing, wheezing.

We always said Bradley had 9 lives, he should have died many times over, he ate rat poison and survived, he ate chocolate on more than 1 occasion, we would have to hide it in the house.  One time he ate almost a lb. of chocolate by himself, he even unwrapped the paper before he ate them!!!!
He got attacked by a dog and had his stomach ripped open requiring 20 stitches.  He loved the car and loved to go camping with us.
He was my constant companion.

Bradley taught Elvis what to do since he was a puppy, Elvis was such a sweet calm dog, loved people, he once ate the cushion of my sofa when he was a puppy.  I came home from work and walked into foam pieces of cushion all over the house!!! And he was there with foam hanging out of his mouth.

They both loved to go camping, as soon as they saw me go out to the camper they would start crying and I would have to let them into the camper while I was packing.
